Recap: Nevada vs. Bucknell
Reno, NV (Sports Network) - Olek Czyz registered 24 points as he helped guide Nevada to a 75-67 win over Bucknell in the second round of the 2012 National Invitation Tournament at the Lawlor Events Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the fifth-seeded Wolf Pack (28-6) were Malik Story and Deonte Burton with 18 and 10 points, respectively, as Nevada won a second NIT game in the same year for the first time.
Mike Muscala recorded game highs with 25 points and 15 rebounds in the setback for the eighth-seeded Bison (25-10), followed by Cameron Ayers with 21 points on 4-of-5 shooting behind the three-point line.
Nevada, which never trailed on the afternoon, shot 60.0 percent from the field and 10-of-12 at the free-throw line in the first half in order to take a 42-29 lead at the break.
However, the Bison made things interesting in the second half as they limited the hosts to just nine made field goals over the final 20 minutes of action. Muscala, who unfortunately was guilty of six of his team's 16 turnovers, nailed a pair of free throws with 44 seconds to play to cut the deficit to 70-67.
Nevada responded by converting on five free throws down the stretch, four of those by Burton, to capture the eight-point win.
The Wolf Pack ended up outscoring the visitors at the charity stripe by a 24-15 margin.
With the win the Pack is now set to contend against the survivor of the Illinois State/Stanford contest in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night for the right to move on to Madison Square Garden.Game Notes
