Recap: SIU Edwardsville vs. Northern Ill

Edwardsville, IL (Sports Network) - Mark Yelovich hit a jumper at the buzzer and notched 22 points as the SIU Edwardsville Cougars roared back to take a 64-62 win over the Northern Illinois Huskies in a BracketBuster thriller at the Vadalabene Center.

Kris Davis netted 14 points for SIU Edwardsville (8-16) which had lost consecutive games entering play.

Abdel Nader and Tony Nixon each scored 12 points for Northern Illinois (3-22) which has lost three straight. Nader also collected eight rebounds in the losing effort.

Northern Illinois led 34-24 after the first half by shooting 43.3 percent from the floor while limiting SIU Edwardsville to just 38.1 percent.

In the second half the Cougars improved to 52.2 percent from the field to get back in contention. SIU Edwardsville led 62-57 with 1:35 left but allowed Northern Illinois to score five straight points in the next minute to tie the game at 62-62. Davis missed two free throws as the game remained deadlocked with 27 seconds remaining. Jerome Jones collected a rebound off a miss free throw from Askel Bolin on the next possession which led to the Yelovich buzzer beater.

Northern Illinois held a 33-27 advantage on the glass in the losing effort.
