WICHITA (FoxKansas.com) -- The American Red Cross expects to deliver as many as 500 care packages to hospitalized veterans in Wichita.
The "Totes for Hopes" program will deliver goodie bags to veterans who are receiving care at the Robert J. Dole Medical Center on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 10 am. The care packages will contain soap, shampoo, razors and other items.
Several Wichita motorcycle groups are expected to help deliver the care packages, which are a way of thanking the country's veterans. The Red Cross is providing the totes but the relief agency is also seeking unopened hygiene products that can be distributed later.
Meanwhile, the nation paused on Friday to honor its military veterans.
President Barack Obama hosted a veterans breakfast Friday at the White House before laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns before speaking at a Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
The president was also expected to participate in the first-ever Carrier Classic basketball game between Michigan State and North Carolina aboard the USS Carl Vinson.
