Toys are an important part of a child's day. Some toys can present a danger to children, so many states regulate the types of toys allowed in daycare centers. A common regulation prevents exploding toys, such as rockets, or ones that shoot things such as B-Bs or darts. While some toys are safe for older children, they can be dangerous for younger ones. Toddlers and even two-year-olds may explore their environment by putting everything into their mouth. Caregivers should be watchful of coins, rocks or pebbles, and toys with small parts. Some state laws require childcare providers to ensure small objects and toys aren't in reach of young children. If the objects become lodged in the throat, they can cause choking or suffocation. Both conditions are life threatening.
