The classified section of your local newspaper is the probably the easiest place to start when looking for a job. Generally, the Sunday edition has the largest number of help wanted ads. Go through the ads, and highlight those with potential. While you'll want to focus on your particular field, such as clerical, accounting, or medical, it pays to go through all of the ads. Why? Often, ads are mis-classified, or placed under the wrong heading by mistake. After scanning the ads, cut out those you're interested in, and paste them on a sheet of paper. Or, put them on a five by eight notecard. If there's another ad you want on the reverse side, copy its information down before cutting. Then monday morning, begin calling each prospect. Note any details you're given next to that ad, such as directions, appointment time, samples requested, or interviewer's names. Some ads may ask for a resume only, with no phone calls. In that case, send them a packet as soon as possible. If you're willing to relocate, you might want to get copies of papers in other cities. You can subscribe to them directly, or sometimes find them at larger bookstores.
